“Alone”

By Edgar Allan Poe

From childhood’s hour I have not been
As others were—I have not seen
As others saw—I could not bring
My passions from a common spring—
From the same source I have not taken
My sorrow—I could not awaken
My heart to joy at the same tone—
And all I lov’d—I lov’d alone—
Then—in my childhood—in the dawn
Of a most stormy life—was drawn
From ev’ry depth of good and ill
The mystery which binds me still—
From the torrent, or the fountain—
From the red cliff of the mountain—
From the sun that ’round me roll’d
In its autumn tint of gold—
From the lightning in the sky
As it pass’d me flying by—
From the thunder, and the storm—
And the cloud that took the form
(When the rest of Heaven was blue)
Of a demon in my view—

Edgar Allan Poe is a really famous writer and thats why I picked one of his poems. I had only read short stories by him, so it was interesting to see is writing in something much shorter.

This poem was a linear progression. It starts of when the writer was a child, and from what I understand the ending symbolizes the writer death. He is talking about his loneliness, through out life and explains that it was due how he act, and how he felt. He says that he was extremely different from the ones that surrounded him. He thought differently, saw differently and felt that his passions did not come from common things, they came from unusual places, what made him feel misplaced.

The style of Edgar Allan Poe is really reflected in this poem. It has a tone of darkness and sadness to it, and he sounds melancholy.

English III Trimester I Examination

Villain, be sure thou prove my love a whore,
Be sure of it; give me the ocular proof:
Or by the worth of man's eternal soul,
Thou hadst been better have been born a dog
Than answer my waked wrath!

Speaker: Othello
Person Spoken to: Iago

What is going on when this passage is spoken?
Before, Iago was making Othello believe that his wife Desdemona was having a affair with Cassio. In this passage Othello is asking Iago for actual proof, to be sure that this betrayal really happened.

Comment: Since Iago wants to destroy Othello's marriage as soon Othello asks for ocular proof, Iago goes after it. Eventually he's able to make Othello see Cassio with the napkin he gave to Desdemona, leading him to believe that there is something between them.

Questions About Othello

Questions about Othello

1. What is Iago trying to make other people think?

Iago is trying to make Desdemona feel useless, but he end up insulting his own wife by doing that. He thinks that messing with Desdemona's mind will help him mess with Othello's mind, that is his prime objective.

2. What tact is does Iago rely on to make his victims believe him?

Iago usually talk to people like he really knows them, as if he knew everything about their life and feelings, and by doing that he seems confident about what he is talking about. When he talks about wife cliches he is almost humiliating his own wife, Emilia, and Desdemona, but he makes it sound has he was just making a comment on their housewife lives.

Questions from Othello Act I Scene I

1. Why do Iago, Roderigo, and Brabantio all hate Othello (the Moor)?

Iago and Roderigo hate Othello the Moor, manly because he is different from all the rest of the population from Venice. He is from Egypt and this is way he suffer from prejudice. Brabantio also hates him, he have problems with his skin color too, but his hate comes more from the fact that Othello married his daughter, Desdemona.

2. What are Iago's reasons for continuing to follow his master, Othello -- even though he hates him?

Iago believes that if he is close to Othello it will be easier to "destroy" him. And since he would be working for Othello because of his own reasons he would not be a slave, he would be a person "with soul".

Part 1, "The Body" by Stephen King

The first thing that happens on this scene is Chris arriving by car where he planed to met Gordie, who was already there. With his eyes sparkling Chris asks if Gordie wants to see something. When his friend says yes, he point to a alley indicating they should go that way, so nobody could see them. Gordie runs after him in which he observes to be a strange alley since the walls weren't running parallel to each other, what made the space narrowed as it went back.

There was a lot of trash cans and the smell was horrible. The narrator however forgot about the smell quickly since Chris get a .45 out of his back. At first Gordie gets really scared and talk about some of Chris's family problems, such as the drinking problem of his father and his brother, but after Chris tells him that the gun is not loaded he finally grab the gun and point to a trashcan and pulled the trigger. The gun although was loaded, so Gordie had just fired off one of the shells. He is picked by surprise and Chris stars laughing. A woman from one of the buildings get out side to see what was happening and the two boys start to run so she won't see them.

Who am I?

Hi there! My name is Giovana and I'm currently living in Coral Springs, Florida even though I was born in Brazil. This week it will have been one month far away from home and it seems like a long time but it pass really quickly.
I'm living a totally new life here, I have to get use to a different language, different classes, friends and deal with my home sickness. This may look really hard, but it isn't! I'm enjoying every minute of it, experiencing not only english, but also italian, spanish, french and sometimes even chines, who would have said?
Of course i miss my old life, but I know I will come back soon and that this exchange program will be over so so so quickly, the only thing I must do is have fun.
I have 17 years old, I used to live in São Paulo and I really like listening to music, trying to learn how to play the guitar, even though I never get it right, and going out with my friends, the old and the new ones.
I'm a positive girl, I try to see the bright side in every thing, and this may cause me some problems some times but I haven't changed because of that. I think that if you don't believe in yourself nobody else will.
I'm excited with this blog, I always thought that writing was a great way to deal with your thoughts and feelings, especially when you living different experiences.
Well, that's it for today, hope you all enjoy reading my blog :)
